The Bone Grow Abnormally
It is a chronic skeletal disorder in which some areas of the bone grow abnormally, become larger and become more fragile
A team of Scottish scientists have identified three genes responsible for 70 percent of a painful bone condition known as Padget’s disease.
Experts believe that genes regulating bone repair and may explain why the bones of people with that information is swell and suffer malformations.
An international team led by researchers at the University of Edinburgh studied the DNA of 1,250 patients suffering from this condition to try to discover the causative genes.
The researchers found that three of them have more defects in those who suffer from this condition that in healthy people: those defects occur in seven out of ten cases. These three genes are added to one that had been discovered in 10 percent of cases.
This discovery, which reports the journal Nature Genetics, explains why these patients have a family history of the disease.
A screening program by examining these genes would allow doctors to treat Paget’s disease preemptively before the bones are damaged.
In , as they age, the bones are replaced by new cells as part of the normal cycle. But that generation is triggered in the case of Paget’s disease and patients suffering from pain, your bones become fragile and more susceptible to fractures and advanced arthritis.
